Hexagonal Tungsten Trioxide Nanowire

Hexagonal tungsten trioxide nanowire may be synthesized by hydrothermal method using Na2WO4?2H2O and HCl as raw materials, K2C2O4 and K2SO4 as structure-directing agents respectively. The hydrothermal reaction was conducted at 150°C for 12h.

The structure of hexagonal WO3 nanowire obtained presents complex net structure with higher specific surface area, which improves the photocatalytic activity of the material. The presence of two additives, K2C2O4 and K2SO4, proved that K+ plays an important role in guiding the growth of WO3 nanowire.hexagonal WO3 wire SEM image synthesized with different salts as additives
The photocatalytic performance test of hexagonal WO3 nanowire was done to investigate the effect of the structure-directing agents on the structures and properties of the products. To be specific, the WO3 nanowire was studied by degradation of methylene blue solution under ultraviolet irradiation.The results shows that the hexagonal WO3 nanowire obtained under both structure-directing agents exhibit good photocatalytic activity, but the WO3 nanowire prepared with K2C2O4 as structure-directing agents exhibited higher photocatalytic activity, which is due to their larger BET surface areas.
